Bear causes semi rollover on I5 near Talent

Update (8:15 a.m. 11/25): All lanes of northbound I5 are re-open, after a semi rollover caused by a bear.

NBC5 News was first on scene Tuesday morning. It all happened at around 12:20 a.m.

Oregon State Police say a bear darted onto the freeway, the driver attempted to avoid hitting it, and crashed his semi into the center median in the northbound lanes of I5.

His truck then flipped, blocking both lanes, causing a two hour detour with traffic using Exit 21. Both lanes are now re-open.

The driver was transported to Providence Medical Center with minor injuries.

The Oregon Department of Transportation says motorists should watch for crews and equipment along the shoulder later today as clean up resumes.

Talent, Ore. — The Oregon State Police and Oregon Department of Transportation have closed Interstate-5 northbound at mile marker 22, just north of the Talent exit due to a semi-truck crash.

According to a short press release the semi-truck rolled over just after midnight Tuesday morning blocking all northbound lanes and spilling its’ load.

The release said the truck was carrying plywood at the time of the crash. No indication was given as to the cause of the crash.

A detour around the crash is in place at the Talent exit onto Highway 99.

It is currently unknown when I-5 northbound will be re-opened.
