Indianapolis, Ind. — (WTHR) A young Indianapolis, Indiana football player has been benched for nothing more than her gender.
It had been a good football season for Cece Lucia. She kicked a game-winning field goal at a recent game for St. Simon School. Wild cheering and applause erupted from the stands.
Then came Sunday’s game. Before Lucia could hit the field, the devastating news came that she wasn’t allowed to play. The Catholic Youth Organization, which regulates her league, has a policy that no girls are allowed in boys’ sports, so she was benched.
