Blaze destroys White City family’s home

White City, Ore. — A devastating fire left one White City family without a home Sunday night.

Jackson County Fire District Three’s Fire Marshal, John Patterson, said they received calls around 11:00 Sunday morning about smoke billowing out of a manufactured home on the 3600 block of Avenue G.

He said when crews arrived the whole front end of the house was engulfed in flames and the fire had crawled up into the attic.

“Once it gets in the attic it’s really difficult to get to because we typically won’t send crews up on the top of these roofs because the structural integrity is in jeopardy already,” Patterson said.

Instead Patterson said they attacked the fire in the ceiling by pulling the roof down from the inside. The blaze started underneath the front porch from a cigarette ember. The home is considered a total loss. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
