Bystanders help put out fire at Umpqua Bank

MEDFORD, ORE. — Firefighters were fast to respond to a fire at the Umpqua Bank in downtown Medford Saturday evening.

Crew got the call around 7 o’clock.

The initial report said the bushes were on fire, which quickly spread to the building at the corner of 10th and Central.

Firefighters were able to arrive within seconds and say bystanders were attacking the fire when they arrived.

“We were only 5 or 6 blocks away when we got the call and there were also a couple of citizens that jumped right in and hit it with a fire extinguisher kind of helped out that way too,” said Medford firefighter Rick Martin.

The inside of the bank did suffer some minor smoke damage.

Firefighters say the fire was likely human caused but an exact cause was not released.
