Cave Junction man sustains injuries while fleeing from sheriff deputies

JOCO arrestedCave Junction, Ore. — The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office says they arrested 36-year-old Merle Southard after he fled from a residence in the 300 block of South Old Stage Road in Cave Junction on Wednesday.

Officials say Southard was pursued on foot and a taser was deployed to gain his compliance. Southard sustained facial injuries during the arrest and is being held on an Oregon State Parole Board warrant. Officials say Southard is facing new charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and interfering.

54-year-old Carrie Sanders was also arrested at the residence on a felony warrant for possession of meth.
