Chinese New Year Parade

The city of Jacksonville ushered in the Chinese New Year with style Saturday morning.

The annual Chinese New Year parade brought hundreds to downtown Jacksonville. People we spoke with had actually come from around the country to celebrate 2012…the year of the dragon.

Young Makyle Healy shared with us his new year’s wish in Chinese, “Happy new year. Happy Dragon year. Wish you get rich and your wishes come true.”

The day included many events – from traditional activities for children to dance performances. Many restaurants even offered Asian fare for dining guests.

The Chinese new year officially began January 23, 2012.
