From chili dogs, to nachos, to plenty of drinks, people in need got a chance to sit back and enjoy the Super Bowl today.
Patrick Smith has been homeless for two months and he said he’s glad to socialize, relax and watch the game at the Mission.
“I came to watch the football game, food and have fellowship with other people,” said Smith.
“People are going through the same thing as I am so I don’t feel alone,” he added.
According to research, there are 600-900 homeless people of all ages in our valley.
“I know i’m not the only one going through it,” said Smith.
It’s a problem made worse by a struggling economy.
“If we can make people feel normal for just one day then it’s worth pulling out all the extra stuff today,” said Jason Bull, the Associate Director at the Medford Gospel Mission.
People began filtering in around one in the afternoon expecting hours of fun, food and of course football.
“We want to give them a super super bowl party experience,” said Bull.
For Patrick Smith and many others, attending the Super Bowl party was a chance to enjoy themselves and leave their struggles at the door.
Gospel mission officials said they expected to serve about 150 people throughout the entire game.
