CHP officer charged with child molestation

Dan DealYreka, Calif. — Yreka Police arrested 48-year old CHP officer Daniel Deal Tuesday night on child molestation charges. Deal is currently charged with Lewd Acts With a Child between the ages of 14 and 15, though the investigation is ongoing. YPD tells NBC5 News the alleged abuse occurred in the last year in Yreka on multiple occasions.

YPD, along with the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office made the arrest. Deal has since bailed out of Siskiyou County Jail.

Deal has been placed on administrative time off while an internal CHP investigation is being conducted. CHP confirms that Deal’s peace officer powers have been revoked.

A CHP spokesman says they find the allegation “very disturbing”, and they are fully cooperating with the investigation being conducted by YPD.

The CHP adds that, “The alleged conduct of this employee does not reflect the values, hard work, dedication, and professionalism of the California Highway Patrol and its more than 11,000 employees who proudly work each day to provide the best in safety service, and security, to the people of California.”
