Civil Air Patrol Training

Medford, Ore — A group of volunteers took community service to new heights in Medford.

As they lift off, volunteers with the civil air patrol are helping to make land and sky safer.

“There can be quite a variety of missions, we may get a call to search for a lost hiker, or there may be a downed aircraft someplace,” said Mike Watson.

The volunteers step in when others may not be able to.

“It’s not practical for the air force or the government to send out large aircraft anymore than it is for the navy to send a large ship if a small fishing boat gets in trouble off the coast,” said Herman Dennington.

The volunteers say they’re helping to keep an eye out while serving their community.

“I’m committed to providing some kind of support to the community’s infrastructure, and civil air patrol is just a good outlet for that,” said Mike Watson.

If you’re interested in being a member of the Civil Air Patrol, they have meetings every Tuesday at 6:30 at their Hanger on 5060 Cirrus Drive in Medford.
