Community of Weed gathers for Mass and BBQ one year later

Weed, CA.– Despite the tragic fire that hit the small community of Weed a year ago many are looking forward to rebuilding.
Tuesday close to 200 people gathered to reflect on the tragedy that has brought them all closer together.
At least 200 people gathered in the parking lot where Holy Community Catholic Church once stood for a mass followed by a BBQ. Father Joshi Mathew said Tuesday was for giving thanks and to simply come together as one. “When considered, the fire that happened here last year we lost everything. But the most precious gift..the gift of life..we are all alive,” said Fr. Mathew.

Dawn Dawson from Mt. Shasta said “The growth, the new homes, everybody’s come together and the community is really a lot stronger then it was before. I think and it’s just really good to see how everybody comes together.

People were even there from outside the Weed area and people who are not Catholic just to show there support.
Ground breaking for Holy Family Church is scheduled for Saturday and parishioners said it’s expected to be done in one year.
