DHS worker arrested for DUII while on the job

An on-call case worker from the Oregon Department of Human Services was fired after allegedly driving drunk while responding to an abuse case in Hillsboro on New Years Eve.

According to our sister station KGW 26-year-old Alysse Carlson of Beaverton was the on-call DHS case worker that night.

Police responded to reports of a car swerving and were able to locate the vehicle a short time later.

Officers said Carlson smelled of alcohol and had her perform field sobriety tests. She reportedly told the officers she had two glasses of wine, but after using a breathalyzer they found her blood alcohol content to be 3 times the legal limit. Carlsons’ BAC was .25.

Carlson was then arrested on one count of DUII.

“It was affecting her and affecting the way she drove, and in our opinion, it would have affected her ability to continue forward with her idea of doing her job that evening,” said Lt. Mike Rouches with the Hillsboro Police Department.

Carlson was reportedly on the way to help Hillsboro officers with an abuse call.

KGW learned Friday morning that Carlson was fired after less than seven months on the job.

“Alysse Carlson began working for DHS as a Social Services Specialist 1 on June 24, 2013,” said DHS spokesman Gene Evans. “The agency has terminated her trial service employment, effective today.”
