Medford, Ore. — Nine months after Alan McVay built a bomb and set if off outside the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office in Medford, he learns his fate in federal court.
McVay was sentenced to 180 months in prison and 3 years supervised release.
A sentence that Jackson County District Attorney Beth Heckert says she is pleased with.
“I was very satisfied with the sentencing today (Monday). The Medford Police Department and all the federal agencies that helped with this investigation really did a great job. And brought it some closure much sooner for us, and this is final chapter of that closure,” Heckert said.
In the courtroom, McVay’s attorney said McVay was foolish but remorseful.
He also stated no one specific person was targeted in the attack.
Before he was sentenced, McVay addressed the court and said that he “sincerelyapologizes” and that he would never do something like that again.
The Judge said that McVay’s actions were “a serious offense” and that it “demands careful attention.”
McVay set off anexplosive devise on November 13, 2013, in an attempt to delaysentencing for burglary and theft charges, according to court documents.
Mcvay had originally pleaded not guilty, but changed his plea in hopes for a lesser sentence.
The judge sentenced McVay to180 months or 15 years in prison plus an additional 3 years supervised release.
McVay’s family was in the courtroom, they had no comment.
