Dog fight injures owner and rescuer

Medford, Ore.–Patty from Medford said on Tuesday her two Pit bulls got into a fight with herroommatesother two Pit bulls. But the dog fight took an unexpected turn. Patty said she tried to break it up and ended up getting bit.

A female passerby saw Patty in distress and tried to help.

Medford Police Lieutenant Mike Budreau said she was also bit, “The passerby not really knowing what the heck was going on see’s this girl that’s bleeding and surrounded by aggressive Pit bulls and she threw a cup of water at the dogs to try and get them to leave the victim.”

“She stuck her hand out to ask me how to help and it startled the mother of the dogs. Which is now in the dog pound in quarantine,” said Patty.

Police said it happened on Austin street feet from Kids Unlimited and Vibes Charter School.

Both women were rushed to the hospital where they received stitches. Police say it’s the 90th dog bite in three years. And said this latest attack comes at ironic timing as the City of Medford is looking at creating stricter rules for so-called “dangerous dogs”. Pit bulls have been mentioned specifically.

“We examined the gate which kept the Pit bulls in the yard and that was pretty poor standard it was only being held together by one wire,” said Budreau.

Patty’s roommate and owner of the two other Pit bulls says his dogs are well behaved.

“We haven’t trained our dogs to be mean or to bite or to attack. Our dogs have been trained to love, that’s all they are they’re loving dogs,” said Wells.

Police cited wells for a municipal code violation, control of dogs. His dogs are now at Jackson County Animal Control. He and his roommate Patty said they feel it isn’t right.
