‘E-Court’ upgrade for Klamath County courts

Klamath Falls, Ore. – The Klamath County courts are upgrading their computer system.

The ‘Odyssey’, or ‘E-Court’ system replaces a program that’s been in place for 25 years.

However, Trial Court Administrator John Powell notes that there will be some growing pains…

“We’re slowing down some of our court calendars, but we’re also going to ask the public for some patience.”

The program makes a big shift from paper documents and forms to an online system.

Notifications are now being posted at the courthouse.

“Most of the staff will be at 3 weeks of training.” Adds Powell. “And the judges will have about a week of training.”

Attorneys will have to learn the new system, too.

“There’s going to be a learning curve, obviously.” Says Lawyer Phil Studenberg. “I think eventually it’s going to be much smoother, much better – we won’t have to haul huge briefcases full of paper files around.”

Klamath County will be the 19th of Oregon’s 26 court districts to make the shift.

Klamath County is scheduled to make the transition to the new computer system June 8th.

Jackson County was one of the first in Oregon to make the switch to the ‘E-Court’ system, back in March of 2013

The system will be in all Oregon courts in June of 2016.
