Negotiations between the Eagle Point Education Association and the Eagle Point school district have gotten tense.
Earlier this week, the union authorized a strike now planned for may 8. The two sides are not finding common ground on subcontracting agreements, job security for bus drivers, and teacher prep time. Among other sticking points.
On friday, we learned the union filed a complaint with the state.
they allege district administrators polled union members to see would or would not participate in a strike planned for next month.
Unions reps said the meetings were a form of intimidation.
This afternoon, several members of the Eagle Point Education Association were out passing out flyers and talking to district residents. They said they wanted residents to know their side of the story. Negotiations between the union and the district have been going on for 13 months now. Union members we spoke with said they’re doing their job, improving student performance.
” we wanted people in these communities to know that our schools, every building is improving its test scores, we are delivering results in every building for their students, they’re getting a real good value, but they’re doing it on the back of employees.” Said David Sours a teacher at White Mountain Middle School
The union and the district will meet again on Tuesday to continue negotiations. The public is invited to attend.
