Famous local eagle eye surgery a success

Medford, Ore. — It’s the first operation of its kind in Southern Oregon and it’s giving a feathered friend a chance to see again.

Phoenix, the Golden eagle received a rare cataract surgery this morning from doctors at Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty Center and it turned out to be a success.

The eagle, who was completely blind in his left eye. He has been raised by David Siddon, the executive director of The Wildlife Images, a rehab center for animals in Grants Pass.

Doctor Cassandra Bliss, who performed the surgery, tells us it went great and that Phoenix will be able to see as soon as the anesthesia wears off.
