Fire destroys home in West Klamath

Klamath Falls, Ore. — A home in West Klamath burned to the ground this morning.

Investigators still aren’t sure what sparked the fire.

The fire broke out at a home on Peggy Avenue just before 5:AM.

“Just heard the fire engines, and came to take a look.” Noted neighbor Brian Houck. “And it’s already up in flames.”

Lieutenant Dusty Turner of Klamath County Fire District #4 says the cause of the fire is under investigation…

“We don’t believe it was set intentionally, but right now we’re not ruling anything out.”

Houck noted that a downed power line sounded like fireworks…

“I heard it crackling and popping.”

Neighbor Marty Alston says there hadn’t been anyone living at the home…

“I don’t believe so. It was pretty trashed – no power, no water.”

But other say that people had been sleeping in the vacant home…and investigators would like to talk with them.
