Hepatitis-C exposure warning for patients at Washington hospital

Vancouver, Wa. — Letters are on their way to patients outside of Portland after a fired hospital worker may have exposed those patients to Hepatitis-C.

Peace-Health Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver says as many as 936 patients may be at risk.

An investigation by the hospital and the health department found the employee may have infected the patients while stealing drugs for personal use. For example, by injecting a drug and then using the same syringe to give whatever was left of the dose, to another patient. But the director of Clark County Public Health says the risks are low.

So far, there’s no concrete evidence that anyone has been exposed.
