Following up on a story we brought you last month: Today, Jackson Elementary is making local history.
This is the first day of class for fourteen young children at the brand new preschool. It’s the first of it’s kind: a school sponsored, free early education center. Staff say they saw a need and decided this was one way they could fill it. Principal Kelly Soter says, “Around 70 to 80% of our kids come into kindergarten with nothing prior to kindergarten. It’s their first educational experience.”
The preschool is also run through a partnership with the Family Nurturing Center.
Curriculum will focus on social and emotional skills…. as well as literacy.
