Jacksonville celebrates Chinese New Year with annual parade

JVILLE PARAEDE PICJACKSONVILLE, Ore. — Hundreds of people packed with hundreds of people Saturday morning, all gathering to watch the annual Chinese New Year parade.

Monday, February 8th marks the beginning of the Chinese New Year.  2016 is the year of the monkey, the ninth of the 12-year cycle of animals in the Chinese zodiac.

This is the 16th year for the event put on by the Southern Oregon Chinese Cultural Association. The parade is put on to honor the history of the town that was once populated by Chinese miners.
