Klamath Falls Sheriff introduces new policy

Klamath Falls, Ore. — The Klamath county sheriff says drug dealers with guns and money don’t deserve ‘Oregon trail’ cards.

32 year old Jimmy Perez, 32 year old Joshua Hefington and 50 year old David Brown were all arrested during a parole and probation sweep over the weekend. Sheriff Frank Skrah says their arrests mark the start of a new policy.

“If we arrest a drug dealer, and he’s got a grand in his pocket, or over 1,000 dollars and an Oregon Trail card, and dope and guns, we’re going to take it all away from him.”

The sheriff’s move could face a legal challenge as Klamath County currently doesn’t have an asset forfeiture ordinance, a specific policy on cash seizures by police.
