Klamath Union High School construction underway

Klamath Falls, Ore. – A 34 million dollar renovation of Klamath Union High School is now underway.

Brad Mason of Diversified Contractors graduated from K.U. in 1973, and met his wife there.

Mason is now working to rebuild the school…

“Brings back a lot of memories – there were a lot of rooms that I didn’t even know existed in that school.”

Mason adds that workers are now forming up walls for a new gymnasium…

“Which is going to be attached to Pelican Court. It’s actually being placed where the old shop building used to be.”

Klamath Falls City Schools Maintenance Director Wayne Huggins points out that modular units will provide extra space during fall construction…

“We’re going to have some classrooms, office buildings for these back units, where the office staff is going to be, and the front units of the modulars is going to have some classrooms in it.”

Huggins adds that a row of old trees that had been rotting from the inside out had to be removed from the front of the school…

“We’re going to plant some new ones in, because those just weren’t safe anymore.”

Brad Mason says his history with the school makes this a special project…

“We’ve done a lot of buildings around town, but this one is a little closer to the heart than a lot of the rest of them.”

The project is funded through a 36 million dollar bond measure passed by voters in November of last year.

About 2 million of that bond will fund improvements at other Klamath Falls city schools.
