More than 2,000 pieces of stolen mail, including credit cards, un-cashed checks, and just about anything else you can think of, gone from more than 1,000 Jackson County mail boxes.
The Medford Police Department and U.S. Postal Service worked together to bust a large mail theft ring involving at least 23 people.
And while pertinant information like social security and bank numbers were obtained by the 23 suspects, police say the banks face the biggest loss.
The banks wind up re-imbursing their customers for the fraud, leaving the banks in the hole.
Authorities have been disassembling the ring since March.
Last month, two hikers in Josephine County found hundreds of open letters on Onion Mountain.
But officials aren’t sure if the two cases are related.
NBC 5made several phone calls to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service to get comment.

The 5 alleged ring leaders are now in federal custody awaiting trail.
Now police say the best thing you can do to protect yourself from mail theft is getting away from a traditional mail box, and installing a locking mail box.
