Local driver racing for girl battling cancer

A Southern Oregon race car driver is gearing up for his last race of the season, and he’s hitting the track for a very special cause.

Derek DeBoer is the general manager and part-owner of TC Chevy in Ashland. He’s been racing for 17 years. Earlier this year he got involved with the non-profit “Racing for Cancer.” Next weekend he’ll head down to Sonoma, California to compete in the GTS Class in the Pirelli World Challenge with his team Aston Martin Racing.

He’s hoping to take home a win for a precious family friend, five-year-old Cate Kingston. She was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in early August.

“This little girl doesn’t get to start kindergarten this year. She’s got a 2 year battle so we wanted to do anything we could to help make it work,” DeBoer said.

DeBoer has created the fundraiser campaign called #CateStrong. It will help the Kingston family with their medical expenses. DeBoer is asking for $100 donations that will then be matched by TC Chevrolet. To donate you can click here.
