Today’s ruling by the Supreme Court is sparking a heated debate here at home.
People on both sides are expressing their opinions on the affordable care act.
There’s a large divide when it comes to the affordable care act
some are celebrating, some concerned about what happens next.
“I have been waiting for 20 years,” says Roger Howe, a retired physician and health care reform writer says that today’s action by the Supreme Court is a step in the right direction.
“We need reform to be sure everyone is in the tent.”
However, not everyone is feeling overjoyed. “I don’t see how you can make something like this work,” says Medford resident Chuck Goold.
If you do not have health insurance by 2014 you will be hit with an additional tax, one that increases over time. “I you can’t afford insurance they’re going to make you pay a fine, it doesn’t make any sense,” remarks Kyle Plumb of Central Point.
But Howe says that this legislation will make health care more affordable.
People fall into several categories in terms of how they afford care
for a family of four making less than 31 thousand dollars insurance will be covered through federal funding. Middle class earners with incomes over $31,000 thousand for a family of four will pay part of their insurance, covered also by a government stipend.
And the wealthy …those making more than $100,000 of a family of four will be required to pay fully for their coverage.
While some cheer the high courts decision and others fear it, a recent NBC poll indicates fewer than 40 percent of Americans understand the Affordable Care Act or the debate around it.
