Local police wearing ‘Mourning Bands’ in honor of fallen officers

Ashland, Ore.– Following the deaths of three police officers who were shot and killed this weekend local police agencies are wearing ‘mourning bands’ in their honor.

Two New York Police Department officers were killed in broad daylight Saturday in their patrol cars. Another officer killed in Tarpon Springs, Florida Sunday.

The mourning bands are a black strip that go around a police badge. A way for the law enforcement community to remember fallen officers no matter the distance.

Ashland, Rogue River, and Portland Police are all wearing the badges until December 31. They are usually worn until the day after the officer’s funeral.
