Medford City Council votes to upgrade Foothill Road

Medford, Ore — One of Medford’s most dangerous roads will soon get a little safer as the City Council pledges millions to upgrade Foothill Road in east Medford.

The council approved a loan agreement worth $10 million dollars to widen Foothill Road between Hillcrest and McAndrews.

The work will widen that section of road from two lanes to five with work beginning as soon as the documents are signed.

City Councilors say the interest rate on the loan deal simply was too good to pass.

“We desperately needed this project and this was a way to fund it because inflation over the next 10 years is going to be way over 1.6 percent,” said City Councilor Daniel Bunn.

Jackson County is also looking at improving the Road because much of Foothill extends north of Medford city limits.
