Medford Homeowners Associations facing discrimination lawsuit

9.11 DiscriminationMedford, Ore. — The Medford Homeowners Associations faces a lawsuit by the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries for discrimination.

The suit accuses the Hawthorne Gardens Homeowners Association of denying a gay couple the right to purchase and move into a unit of the complex because of their sexual orientation.

According to the lawsuit, the Homeowners Association rejected the application because one of the men was under the age requirement of 55.

That’s despite the association approving previous applicants who were under 55. The lawsuit was filed Wednesday and seeks $67,000.
