Child hit by car near Washington Elementary

9.11 CHILD HIT(Updated 9/11 4:05 p.m.) Medford, Ore. —  An 11-year-old boy is recovering after being hit by a vehicle and dragged several feet.

Medford Police say the boy was crossing the street in the 500 block of Hamilton Avenue, coming from Union Park, on his way to Washington Elementary at around 7:40 a.m. on Friday.

“It looks like he just darted out in front of the vehicle. At that point and time, the driver tried to react and didn’t have enough time to react,” said Lieutenant Curtis Whipple from Medford Police. There isn’t a crosswalk in the area.

The extent of the boys injuries aren’t known right now but police said he was responsive when he was sent to Rogue Valley Medical Center.


 

Medford, Ore. — The accident occurred at Hamilton and 13th Street.

Officials say the 11-year-old boy was crossing Hamilton coming from Union Park when he was struck and dragged underneath the car. It is unclear at this time how far the boy was dragged or how fast the car was going at the time of the accident.

The child was sent to Rogue Valley Medical Center and it is unclear what his condition is, but the boy was responsive at the scene.
