Medford police looking for serial arsonist

Medford, Ore. — Just months after police catch Medford’s alleged serial arsonist, they may have another case on their hands.

Investigators say five fires set in west Medford Wednesday are all connected and they fear more could be coming.

“That is a bit unnerving to think there is a arsonist running around town,” said Medford resident Roy Dunn.

Dunn was shocked to hear that not one but two fires were started within a block of his home early Wednesday morning.

And Medford Police say another 3 fires were set nearby all by one suspected arsonist.

“It’s just to similar. We have 5 fires all in the same general area, all started in the alley way, basically along the fence line,” saidLt. Mike Budreau with Medford Police.

Investigators say as fire crews were finishing extinguishing one fire another was lit.

“Here this guy is lighting fires when were basically just a block away. It’s pretty frustrating, so it’s surprising he’s that bold. I think that he is able to light the fires and then he is able to get out of the area before they actually start taking off so he can’t be correlated with that fire, perhaps,” Budreau added,

Police are asking residents to keep a close eye on alley ways.

So far, this year there have been a total of 31 arson fires in Medford, that’s actually down from this time last year.

But if you consider 5 of those happened within the past couple of days, police say it’s alarming.
