New K9 Libby joins the MPD team as a drug detection dog.

Medford Police welcomes two new officers and a K9

Medford, Ore. – The Medford Police Department introduced two new officers at the noon City Council meeting on Thursday. Both Officer Ben Sandu and Dan Swift are lateral hires, meaning they worked at other police agencies before being hired by Medford Police.

“Out of all the agencies, this was my number one choice, so it’s great to be able to work for Medford PD,” Officer Sandu said.

The department also welcomed Libby, a new canine to the team. Libby will be a drug detection dog, trained to detect methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin. She’ll start next week with her partner, Officer Flynt Pierce. The pair are expected to hit the street together next week.
