Cease and desist.
That’s the message of the group Oregon Action to Representative Greg Walden.
“Just like they resisted medicare years and years ago, they are resisting any changes,” says one member of the group.
Not only did they protest, one by one the group went into Walden’s office to deliver their message to him.
Miriam Liberatore is part of the group.
She has been out of work for two weeks now.
Liberatore says “It’s the republicans who started this, it’s the republicans who created this, they had the power to end it and they didn’t take it, now it’s up to us to make sure our voice are heard and somebody who can make a difference will make one.”
It wasn’t long before the republicans made their way out, signs in hands, ready to rebuttal.
“This is just obviously an organized effort to try to divert attention away from the failures of the current administration,” says Chuck Heaus
Heauser is the chairman of the republican party for Jackson County.
He says “they think if they can vilify republicans that are standing up for liberty and standing up for what the people of the nation really want that that can distract people from their failures.”
Both sides are passionate about their stands.
“This is just what democracy looks like we have people that care what is going on and they’re coming and expressing it,” says Rich Rohde from Oregon Action.
From Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington D.C., to Central Avenue here in Medford.
This fight is being felt across the nation.
We did put in a call to Representative Greg Walden’s office he sent back this response.
We are working hard in the house to find a solution that reopens the government, addresses the debt, and reduces spending. Im hearing from Oregonians expressing strong feelings about the situation, on both sides. Its always helpful to have these points of view.
