Medford, Ore. — A new grant is making it possible for homeowners to receive money for creating defensible space.
Fire District 3 worked with the Oregon Department of Forestry to apply for the $300,000 Western States Grant. Residents from Eagle Point to Gold Hill can call ODF or Fire District 3 to have a crew come out and assess what defensible space needs to be created around the home.
The homeowner has two years to complete the work, then they’ll receive a rebate check.
“It’s just an incentive to get out there and do the work that we know can save lives, save homes, and save communities in the event of a wildfire,” Fire District 3 Public Information Officer Ashley Lara said.
You can get up to $500 per acre of land that you make fire friendly. If you’re interested you can call Fire District 3 at 541-826-7100 or ODF at 541-664-3328.
