MPD pushing forward with body cams

Medford, Ore. — The Medford Police Department is asking for $180,000 for body cams.

The first draft of the department’s budget was read before the budget committee.

MPD Lieutenant Scott Clauson says the price would pay for 150 body cams not only for Medford Police, but for all agencies involved in MADGE, Medfords Area Drug and Gang Enforcement unit.

That includes Ashland Police and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

I think the public expects it, I think with the thing going on nationwide the public expects policing to be transparent and we want to be a part of that, Clauson says officers are excited about the possibility of getting the cameras.

The budget will go for approval next month, then the city council will decide just how much money the department will receive for the equipment.
