Murder trial continues in death of Kerby man

A Kerby Oregon man accused of killing his neighbor is currently under trial.

Forensic testimony dominated the Donald Easley murder case on Tuesday.

City of Grants Pass Detective Archie Lidey says, “It involved Donald Easley shooting Leron Estes.”

The two Kerby neighbors had a long running dispute which ended in September of last year when Deputy DA Lisa Turner says Easley shot and killed Leron Estes.

The doctor who performed the autopsy on Estes described how the wounds caused a death.

“Probably filling the chest cavity with blood…” commented Dr. James Olson.

A Portland crime lab forensic scientist says she found blood on the suspected murder weapon, a 380 semi-automatic handgun.

“The DNA profile from the strap of the pistol matched the DNA profile of Donald Easley,” said Danni Tsuboi.

But not all the DNA found belonged to Easley, “The DNA profile from the stain of the rock matched Leron Estes,” said Tsuboi.

Throughout the specialists testimony, Easley fidgeted, often stretching his legs. Once our cameras spotted him smiling, but once he saw the camera Easley stopped looking back.

The trial is expected to continue at the Josephine County Courthouse into next week.
