New app combines zombie apolcolypse and fitness

Ashland, Ore. — Southern Oregon University students are creating a cell phone application to take fitness to another level by throwing users into a zombie apocalypse.

It started as a senior project and is now almost a reality. The application is called Zompocalypse Fitness: The Strength to Survive. The creator, Christopher Applegate, said it’s all about making working out a fun experience.

The application is an 18 episode audio series. Each episode has it’s own plot and challenges that include full body cross training workouts.

“They have to hide, they have to battle, they have to evade. You play as that character and have to act out those exercises in the real world,” Applegate said.

Throughout the six week program the user could run up to 340 miles depending on physical ability.

The application will be available this Halloween for Android and iPhone users.
