New details in Josephine County officer involved shooting

WILDERVILLE, ORE. — New details have been released regarding an officer-involved shooting that happened Friday night in Josephine County.

Oregon State Police responded to a call of a domestic disturbance Friday night between 55-year-old Robert Box and his 23-year-old daughter on the 100 block of Fir Canyon Road.

Ryan Mulkins, Josephine County District Attorney, says the 9-1-1 caller stated that Box was assaulting his daughter and injured her.

The two troopers reportedly made contact with Box who was armed with a handgun.

Soon after, shots were fired.

Box was taken to Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass for emergency medical treatment and died a short time later.

The troopers were not injured. As is standard protocol in officer-involved shooting investigations, they were placed on paid administrative leave pending the ongoing investigation.

Mulkins would not say how long the investigation is expected to take.
