New Hawthorne Park playground officially opens

HAWTHORNEPARKMEDFORD, ORE. — Despite a few sprinkles outside, dozens of people attended the official grand opening of the new playground at Hawthorne Park Saturday morning.

City leaders along with the Jackson and Medford Chamber Leadership Class and plenty of kids came together for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

It’s a project everyone says it putting Hawthorne Park and the entire Medford community on the right path for the future.

“This came out actually better than I thought it would, to be perfectly honest. The splash pad, everything we’ve got here is really state of the art,” said Medford Mayor Gary Wheeler.

“If we want this park to be a success, we need to continue to have community effort to make this a great piece of Medford. I think we’re doing that,” said Daniel Bunn, Medford City Councilor.

The entire Hawthorne Park renovation project is about 85 percent complete.

Park crews still have to put in benches along with other minor finishes.
