New school faces setback after burglary

Medford, Ore. — A challenge for a new charter school after ten Chromebook laptops are stolen right out of their building.

It happened over the weekend at The Valley School on North Riverside in Medford. The Valley School Director, Amy Maukonen, said just before the school’s security system was set to be updated someone broke in and stole a box of brand new laptops.

“We are really upset. It’s unfortunate someone decides to steal from a school, from a learning environment,” Maukonen said.

Medford Police Sergeant Josh Reimer said they’re asking the community to be on the look out.

“The belief is the suspects will try to sell them or offload them somehow maybe on Craigslist or social media outlets,” he said.

Maukonen said if the laptops aren’t found the school will have to buy new ones, costing them thousands of dollars. To donate you can click here.

With their first year of school just around the corner Maukonen said she and her staff are moving forward with optimism. Board members and teachers were at the school Monday preparing classrooms and working on the security system.

“We are so excited to start,” Maukonen said. “The learning space here is getting better and better by the day.
