Nine pounds of meth off the streets

Medford, Ore.– Nine pounds of methamphetamine were seized by the Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement last week.

Lieutenant Kevin Walruff said this is one of their largest cases.

A tip led them to the Pilot gas station in Central Point where they found 29-year-old Ivan Rojas Hernandez. Walruff said Hernandez was on a commercial bus carrying $180,000 worth of meth inside his bag.

“We don’t believe the meth was destined for Southern Oregon we believe it came from Southern California and was headed to some of the larger metropolitan areas north of us,” said Walruff.

And after finding Hernandez’s bag police say they found another bag holding two pounds of meth and over a pound of heroin in a different bag.

Lieutenant Walruff said they don’t think Hernandez had anything to do with it. They don’t know where that bag came from but said that drug dealers are using busses for businesses more and more.

“It’s not uncommon for drug traffickers to use commercial bus lines to traffic large amounts of drugs we’re finding that to be a trend.”

A trend he said he and his team see every three months and is something they’re keeping a close eye on.

For now Walruff said he’s just glad drugs are off the streets.

“This is going to put a hurt in someones drug trafficking organization up north but I believe that there’s one coming behind it so we’re going to be looking at that one as well.”
