Obama Asks To Keep College Loan Rates Low

President Obama will begin a series of speeches on student loan rates Tuesday, with a stop at the University of North Carolina.

The president is asking congress to intervene with rising interest rates in a popular college loan.

If congress does not act, the Stafford College loan rate will jump from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent by July. For students in Oregon, that means rates will increase by nearly $1,000.
