ODOT rescues a family of ducks

Medford, Ore. — (ODOT) A family of ducks waddled their way onto the northbound, I-5 exit 27 on ramp on Friday morning, causing a hazard not only for themselves, but also for motorists trying to swerve out of the way.

Concerned motorists called ODOT/OSP Dispatch.

ODOT Incident Responder Sergio Mendoza herded the ducks out of harms way, until Assistant

District Manager Jeremiah Griffin arrived to help

Their idea: dig a hole under the right-of-way fence to allow the ducks safe passage.

With some expert round-up skills, both Mendoza and Griffin coaxed the family, complete with straggler, safely toward nearby Bear Creek.
