Oregon Bills

The Health and education of children is on Governor John Kitzhaber’s mind.

Some disappointment in Salem today as there was no action on two education reform bills the Governor has been pushing.

But a health reform bill long in the making, Senate Bill 1580, passed the house floor today. It sets guidelines for groups of hospitals, clinics and other providers to manage spending and care for the roughly 600,000 low-income people in the Medicaid-funded program.

Proponents of the bill say it could potentially save billions of dollars. While opponents said it is rushed and half baked.

Having already passed the Senate the bill now goes to Governor Kitzhaber for his signature.
