Oregon State Police add unmarked vehicles to fleet

11.02 OSP NEW VEHICLESOregon– Oregon State Police have announced they’re adding several dozen new vehicles to their fleet.

But it’s raising questions among people. Oregon State Police Sergeant Bill Fugate says the department is adding 40 new unmarked vehicles; some of which will replace the 350 patrol vehicles currently in service around the state.

Fugate says the vehicles are unmarked to better enforce distracted and impaired driving laws and better find aggressive drivers.

Residents in the area had mixed reactions:

“A lot of people they see a police car they slam on the brakes, this way they keep on going, they need to be reminded, you gotta slow down.”

“I’ve never cared for unmarked, they’re there to service, so if we don’t know where to look for them, how are we going to know who the heck they are.”

“I think it’s better to have them then to not have them, I drove truck for many years and you see people all over the road, you think they’re drunk and they’re not, they’re texting.”

Two of the 40 new unmarked patrol vehicles two will go into service some time this month in the Medford area.
