OSF Receives $4.5 Million in Donations

A nice surprise for the Oregon Shakespeare festival — as they receive a 4.5 million dollar donation.

The money was given to OSF by a group of donors which now has the naming rights to the new theatre. In 2013, it will be named the Thomas Theatre, for longtime OSF Development director Peter D. Thomas who died in 2010 at the age of 54.

“And the donors asked that the 4.5 million dollars be divided between two areas the artistic opportunities fund and the construction of the new rehearsal center,” said Mallory Pierce of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

OSF officials say a new rehearsal center is much needed. Right now rehearsals for large scale plays and musicals are conducted in various small spaces around Ashland.
