Pet Therapy

Normally an 80 pound rottweiler roaming the halls of a hospital might be a problem, but in the Ashland community hospital…it’s just Bryce…the rock star doing his thing . His owner Stephanie Schatz says she and Bryce enjoy helping out at the hospital.

For the last year, dogs have made the rounds at the hospital…bringing smiles from room to room. Stephanie and the nurses say that the patients look forward to each day.

Not every dog is ready for the therapy line of work. Stephanie says it’s not in the breed, but in the temperament. “He’s a very sensitive dog…he know who needs attention and how much”. Bryce has had some special moments in his time at the hospital…like the time he helped a veteran do something…most dog owners take for granted. Stephanie says ” the nurse came in and said it’s time to walk…and he said i’ll only do it if bryce does it…so we got the iv and he and bryce went down the hall and back…he was so proud that Bryce walked with him. “

Pet therapy afternoons are a favorite for just about everyone at the hospital…but bryce doesn’t work for free. That’s right…forget the Benjamins…it’s all about the biscuits.
