Police Release New Robbery Surveillance Video

Medford police are looking for the man who robbed a south Medford Radio Shack Monday night, just past 7 p.m. at gunpoint.

Authorities have released new video of the man and they’re hoping someone will be able to help them catch the suspect.

The surveillance video shows the man enter the store dressed in a blue hooded sweatshirt, jeans, and a white bandana over his face. Next, the suspect is seen waving a gun, presumably yelling at employees to give him money. Shortly after they do as he asks, he takes off, back out the door. While the video clips are short, police are crossing their fingers that someone may recognize even the smallest detail.

“Unfortunately the suspect is pretty covered up, but he still has some unique clothing items that maybe somebody could recognize. Maybe not recognize the person, maybe recognize the shoes, the shirt, maybe the face covering, maybe the jacket, maybe the way the person walks,” said Lt. Mike Budreau with the Medford Police Department.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the man was still on the run and police say they fear he’ll commit more robberies if he isn’t caught soon.

“Usually they don’t commit just one robbery. They commit multiple until they are finally caught,” said Budreau.

Dana Knapp, who works at the Supercuts just a storefront away from Radio Shack, might feel a bit more at ease if someone did identify the suspect.

“It was a bit shocking to hear that it was at gunpoint,” said Knapp.

Around the same time of the robbery, she was starting to close up shop. All the while, she didn’t hear a thing, that is until she found out about what happened the next morning.

“I went whoa […] I had no idea it was even occurring,” she said.

It’s the latest robbery in 2013’s upward trend.

“Robberies are up 56% this year from where they were last year.”

In the three days, two bank robberies occurred and the Radio Shack in Medford was robbed at gunpoint Monday night.

However, not all of this year’s robberies were as extreme.

“The majority of those robbery cases are shop lifting in which force was used,” said Budreau who also said the types of robberies are lower level in nature.

According to Budreau, the increase in robberies is a result of people becoming more desperate for cash.

“A lot of this is motivated by drugs,” he said.

Meanwhile, Knapp is just grateful no one was hurt and with the knowledge that robberies are up…

“We’re definitely more aware of what’s going on around us […] knowing that the police department is a phone call away.”

Phone calls are what police are hoping for to identify the man accused of robbing the south Medford Radio Shack, who is still on the loose.

The suspect is described at a white male, about 5’8″, with a shaved head.

He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans with a white bandana across his face.
