The Port of Portland has received approval from the Chinese government to export about 30,000 Fords a year. The extra work is expected to create about 50 jobs at Terminal 6.
China is preparing to open its doors to a variety of Ford vehicles from several factories in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
The first shipment should happen in mid-to late October.
Port director Bill Wyatt, said the new business will provide local jobs and economic benefits.
A $2.8 million project to expand Terminal 6 is nearing completion. The expansion was financed by a state grant and the Auto Warehousing Company.
The Port of Portland is a major gateway for moving cars in and out of the country. It began exporting Fords to South Korea for the first time last year.
