Prescribed burns cause haze and smoke in Rogue Valley

Medford, Ore. — If you’re wondering what’s causing the smoke and haze throughout the Rogue Valley this week, you’re not alone.

Several agencies are conducting prescribed burns. The smoke you see today is likely from the 300 acres burning near Prospect, that’s controlled by the US Forest Service and later this week, the bureau of land management will continue with their own controlled burns, weather and conditions permitting.

Other burns coming up in the following weeks include the Ashland watershed, upper Applegate road, the Buckhorn area, Waters Creek and various locations throughout the Wild Rivers district.
