Protecting your pets from the cold

DOGS

Medford, Ore. –  As temperatures drop officials at the Southern Oregon Humane Society want to remind people the cold can be just as dangerous for pets as the summer heat.  An adoption associate says if it’s too cold for you to be outside then it’s too cold for your dog. She says if you have an outdoor dog make sure they have a way to get inside during the night and keep their kennel covered from the wind and insulated with hay or bedding that you change daily since it may get wet.

“Your animals can get sick and even die if they’re left out in the cold they can get pneumonia just like we can so protecting them from that is really important,” said Kailani Miranda.

She also says make sure you check your dogs water bowl since it may freeze and same goes for cats. If you can’t get your cat inside overnight it’s a good idea to put out a little dog kennel with bedding in case they need it.
